Blue
Haven Foundation
The
Blue Haven Foundation is going to publish a new cookbook emphasizing
finger foods, hors d'oeuvres, etc. The BlueHaven Foundation
would like everyone in our wonderful community to provide
that special recipe or one that is very easy to prepare for
unexpected company to publish in the book. They can send their
recipes to Leah Roust, roustlm@hotmail.com by 9 June. Thank-you!
There
is a Blue Haven Foundation in our neighborhoods. The ladies
of Blue Lake and Deer Haven wrote a cookbook with tried and
true recipes. They met, prepared each dish, tasted and critiqued
each recipe. The cookbook was written in 1976 and was published
in 1981 as the Texas Hill Country Cookbook. The first printing
was in 1976 and the last was in 1994 for a total of 16 printings.
The foundation no longer owns the copyright. There have been
efforts to buy it back, but the owner has turned down various
offers.
Although the cookbook is no longer published, Bev Goyen has
found some for sale on E-Bay. They range in price from $5-$15.
The cookbook was a great success and the monies from the sales
have been invested, have been managed well and have produced
interest.
The foundation meets twice a year to disburse the interest
monies to local charities in the area. Donations are also
made to the 2 neighborhoods, Deer Haven and Blue Lake, for
beautification projects.
